Pibroch o' Donuil Dubh

Pibroch o' Donuil Dubh, Pibroch o' Donuil Dubh,

Wake thy wild voice anew, summon Clan Conuil.

Come away, come away, hark to the summons!

Come in your war array, Gentles and Commons!

Come from deep glen, and from mountain so rocky,

The war pipe and pennon are at Inverlochy;

Come ev'ry hill plaid and true heart the wears one,

Come ev'ry steel blade and strong that bears one!

Leave untended the herd, the flock without shelter;

Leave the corpse uniterr'd, the bride at the altar;

Leave the deer, leave the steer, leave the nets and barges,

Come with your fighting gear, broadswords and targes!

Come as the winds come when forests are rended;

Come as the waves come when navies are stranded;

Faster come, faster come, faster and faster;

Chief, vassal, page and groom, tenant and master!

Fast they come, fast they come, see how they gather!

Wide waves the eagle plume, blened with heather.

Cast your plaids, draw your blades, forward each men set!

Piborch o' Donuil Dubh, knell for the onset!

Sir Walter Scott, 1816

The March of the Cameron Men

There's many a man of the Cameron Clan

That has follow his chief to the field;

He has sworn to support him or die by his side,

For a Cameron never can yield.

I hear the pibroch sounding, sounding,

Deep o'er the mountain and glen,

While light-springing footsteps are trampling the heath,

'Tis the march of the "Cameron Men!"

Oh! proudly they walk; but each Cameron knows

He may tread on the heather no more;

But proudly he follows his chief to the field,

Where his laurels were gather'd before.

I hear the pibroch sounding, sounding,

Deep o'er the mountain and glen,

While light-springing footsteps are trampling the heath,

'Tis the march of the "Cameron Men!"

The moon has arisen, it shines o'er the path

Now trod by the gallant and true;

High, high are their hopes for their chieftain hath said,

That whatever men dare they can do.

I hear the pibroch sounding, sounding,

Deep o'er the mountain and glen,

While light-springing footsteps are trampling the heath,

'Tis the march of the "Cameron Men!"

Mary Maxwell Campbell, 1899
